Moving to University or the Workplace?
Reasonable adjustments are steps that can be taken to help a student access their studies and demonstrate their abilities, while reducing the impact of any difficulties they experience. These adjustments will vary according to the individual student’s needs, their course of study and the learning environment.
The types of reasonable adjustments and support that might be considered within the context of university could include:
Examinations and Study
-
Extra time
-
Use of a computer
-
Use of a separate room
-
Rest breaks
-
Consideration of the impact of spelling and punctuation difficulties, where appropriate
-
Access to lecture recordings or permission to record, where appropriate
-
Teaching materials or handouts provided in advance, where possible
If you are a university student, you may be eligible for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), which can provide additional support for eligible students with a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD).
My assessments provide a detailed picture of an individual’s strengths and areas of difficulty and are carried out in line with current professional guidance.
Diagnostic dyslexia assessments can identify whether the evidence supports a diagnosis of dyslexia. For post-16 students, I can also explore characteristics associated with attention/ADHD* and dyspraxia/DCD within an educational assessment, where appropriate.
These assessments do not provide a medical diagnosis of ADHD or Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).
